Unlike other areas, HR faces many problems that challenge its management on a day-to-day basis.

Managing human capital is different from managing any other organizational resource, and therefore faces unique challenges. HR professionals know this more than anyone. According to a study by PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC), the most important issues for members of this area are: change management (48%), leadership development (35%) and measurement of HR effectiveness (27%).

However, in this post I am going to talk about the human resources problems that I have been able to identify from my experience in Acsendo and I will try to give clues on how to overcome them. Let's see:

·         Get the right talent

Two years ago we were forced to hire a designer for the Marketing area. After dozens of CVs and portfolios reviewed and several hours invested in selection interviews during five months, we found a professional with the required profile.

This, without a doubt, is a sign of the shortage of specialized talent that exists in the country and that may be similar in the labor markets of the region. According to a study by Hays , Colombia and Mexico are the countries with the greatest difficulty in finding personnel.

·         Keep the strategy aligned

It is a reality that human resources contribute to the growth of the company by improving its productivity and profitability, but for this it must have a management model that ensures that it will attract the most suitable professionals and that it will be able to align them with the business objectives.

This is possible through a competency management model or creating SMART goals that keep operational, tactical and strategic levels aligned with the global strategy.

·         Traceability of your management

Despite the multiple KPIs that the HR area may have to measure its processes, the reality is that they work with conditions and variables that are not easy to measure and that have a very low degree of quantification.

However, you can change this by measuring work climate, performance and commitment using software that accompanies you in the management of indicators. This way you will have greater control over the processes for which you are responsible.

·         Change culture and leadership styles

There are still many companies with hierarchical decision-making structures. Human resources should replace them with a much more agile and flexible work dynamic, where the opinions and ideas of employees are taken into account.

In the same way, it must help the company to abandon unnecessary internal bureaucracy, time-consuming procedures, and complex tools. Ideally, lean on a simple and easy-to-use SaaS tool in the cloud.

·         Top management conception

Management tends to have a reductionist view of the HR area. This is due to two reasons: the first, because human management does not deal directly with the sources of economic income and the second, because they understand employees in terms of productive or unproductive personnel.

The foregoing denies the added value that this area is capable of creating by understanding employees not as cost centers, but as generators of profit and added value.

·         Build employee loyalty

All members of a company are diverse from each other. Which increases the difficulty of creating compensation plans that are attractive to the team in general. This is one of the highest priority human resource problems. 

A company cannot provide the same incentives to a millennial director as to another from a previous generation, because their interests and motivations are different. Hence, it is important to know how to create personalized recognition plans.

There are many human resources problems, and no wonder. It is an area with great responsibility as it has to accompany and guide employees so that they are competitive professionals with an exceptional human quality.
