Do you know how Data Wipe works
for PC?
Have you ever wondered if the data you delete from your
computer has been completely removed from your operating system? By
pressing the delete key or emptying the recycle bin, we do not completely get
rid of those files that we want to eradicate completely.
In
the event that we want to sell or get rid of that old PC or hard drive, we must
remember that there may still be sensitive data stored on the device. Many
believe that by deleting them or formatting the disk they have been eliminated,
but it is better to check again.
Although
it is possible to delete files with the keyboard without going through the
recycle bin, using the Shift + Del (Del) key combination, it is also true that,
with the help of special programs, these files can be rescued again without
problems.
This
is because Windows only wipes the index, but not the data, which remains intact
on the hard drive. In other words, the operating system only deletes
certain areas of the disk but does not overwrite them. If you want to
delete these files without the possibility of recovering them, you have to use
complicated Windows resources or simpler erasure tools and without cost.
For example, you can completely and definitively do the Data Wipe from the hard disk
through the
"Execute" tool of the Start button, using the "cipher"
command, which deletes the data that is ordered, which
overwrites the place it occupied in the PC memory. However, this tool is
not used to perform the Data
Wipe on entire hard drive, as its use is complicated and slow.
Another safe way to delete documents is through the Secure Wiper program,
a very extensive free tool that does not require much experience to use, and
that repeatedly overwrites deleted data. To
fulfill its task, this software, which has a graphical interface, conforms to
international standards that require that deleted data cannot be recovered
again.
If you want to remove the entire contents of the hard drive, you can
start the computer from a "live CD" - an operating system stored on a
CD - such as the free Ultimate Boot CD, and
attack the hard drive through the Linux system.
To delete all
the data you can use the CopyWipe tool, downloadable from Ultimate CD
through the path "HDD \ Disk Wiping". After
starting the program, you choose the hard disk you want to wipe and determine
how many times you want to overwrite each sector with zeros.
Another reliable alternative is the program Darik's Boot and Nuke, also the Ultimate
CD. The
Darik procedure, in any case, can last several hours, for which you have to
take your time. In the Parted Magic partition
tool, which is also on the disk, there is also an erasure program locatable as
"System Tools \ Wipe Disk".
The deletion of
a solid SSD can be done by freeware tool SSD Toolbox with Intel. In its
current version 3, the "Secure Data Wiping" function
can also reliably wipe data from an SSD disk, although some users have
complained about problems with this software on certain SSD disks.
Another useful tool is SDelete, one of those
included among Microsoft's Sysinternals helper programs. These same
programs can be used to perform
Data Wipe on stored on portable memory such as SD cards or
USB sticks, as long as the NTFS file system is in use. In
any case, the Tool Wiper is enough to wipe these small devices, another tool
that is obtained free of charge.
But if you want to recover photos, images, texts and other files
deleted by mistake, you can use the PhotoRec tool, also
free, which is capable of restoring files that Windows itself is unable to
repair or recover. The program does not need to be installed and can be
started directly, although its use is not simple, despite the fact that
step-by-step instructions for use are found on its download page.
